Salam

The school insists that students "bagi salam" to teachers even if the teacher doen't teach the particular student. Sometimes it can be a bit funny like whenever I pass this girl, she would do a curtsey and then say in a whisper, Assalamualaikum cigu." Some boys are brave, "Salam cigu. Gula-gula?" and those kids you love to hate, "Salam eh. Kacamata baru ia!" Grrrrr.....

But one encounter was really funny. I used to work in the afternoons so I woulsdspend the mornings shopping to kill time. One day I was at the lingerie department, holding a G-string in front of my face, inspecting it carefully. I noticed two boys approaching me but I didn't bother at first. I didn't recognise they were students of my school. One craned his neck so he could see my face behind the G-string and bagi salam. Embarrassed I walked away quickly after returning his salam.

That afternoon, I met the boy again and his little friend at work. "Assalamualaikum cigu." Again I replied to his salam until I heard his friend said, "Siapa kan tu?"
The boy replied, "Atu bah cigu yang tadi....."
I walked as fast as my heeled feet could carry me. I didn't want to hear the rest of the story!
