The wrong track

Teacher observation time but I'm cool as a cucumber. To me there's no need to panic as long as you observe the following:

a. be well prepared
b. use teaching aid
c. learning should be student centered

Since I'm in the midst of revamping my teaching techniques, the timing is right. Plus, I just had an interesting, short course last week and am game to put into practice what I've learnt.

So, I've been preparing well before my classes. Teaching aid? No problem! The beauty of teaching English that you can use anything for teaching aid. I used a whistle and a kitchen timer. Student centered? No problem. Three activities in one lesson. You can't get more student centered than that.

But alas! I wasn't as well prepared as I had thought. I had forgotten to buy a kitchen timer. I couldn't get on with the lesson unless I had a timer, especially since I got the kids to lug in the OHP and CD player.

For a moment I panicked. I toyed with the thingamajigs on my table but had nothing to time the kids.

"Wait a minute! That's it! The CD player!"

Instead of using a timer, I asked the kids to complete the activity according to the length of a song and I felt bleeping brilliant! Genius, genius! Yay, I'm back on track!

So throughout the activity, the kids were running around, enjoying themselves while I played this song full blast.

Oh s***! I forgot about the sex part! Oh yes, I am brilliant alright, superbly brilliant. Well back to the ol' drawing board.
