Legs and all

I had a short discussion about food with my level 2 students where we had to describe our favourite food. Since I had this craving for a banana split, I described it to them

T: It's a banana split into two at the bottom of a dish. On top of it you have three scoops of ice-cream-pineapple, chocolate & strawberry.

Ss: Aiskrim sama pisang? Eeewww............(collectively)

T: It has cherry on top (trying to win them over)

Ss: Eeeeewwwwwwwwwwwwww...........................

T: Well apatah kamu suka makan? (snapped a bit cause I think banana split is so nyaman kali ah!)

S: Jantung, Cher!

T: Jantung pisang kah?

S: Jantung ayam!

T: Do you mean the liver? Hati?

S: Inda jantung ayam cher!

T: Do you mean hati?

S: No jantung, teacher!

I really thought she was pulling my leg until the boys confirm that Bruneians do eat ughhhhh......

T: Eeee...........rupanya kau ani vampire! Padantah gigimu bertaring!

Ss: Ha,ha,ha!

So I asked my students to come up with a list of food that they like to eat.

Big mistake! Humongous!

The kids crowded round my table and started describing their food. Since I am a vegetarian except when I turn pale, I was easily grossed out.

Lidah (tongue), mata ikan, hati buyah (cow's lungs), belutak (cow's intestines), isi tulang (bone marrow that you suck), kaki & leher ayam (chicken feet & neck), bedukang (yang lauk makan tayi atu cher), budu etc.

Now how on earth are those yummier than banana split?

I begged them to stop but they enjoyed watching me suffer.

S: Ada lagi satu teacher!

T: What?

Then he pointed to his anus. Yup, his anus and said "Jobo (jubur) ayam!"

I hope he doesn't do that everytime he orders tongkeng!

I desperately wanted to change the subject so I steered the conversation to fruits. Much safer, so I thought.

S: Aku tau buah apa teecha suka makan!

T: Apa?

S: Belimbing p*****!

Ss: Ha, ha, ha!

Does that really exist or were my students just pulling my leg?
